Artist of the Month Winners
April 2024

3rd Place: Ken Wallace (left), 2nd: Kim Smith (center), 1st Place: LaRhee Webster (right) ~ Missing from photo: Eileen Cervera, 2nd Place tie

The Artist of the Month contest was held at the April 14 Demo Meeting. Members voted by closed ballot.

LGAA Members Peer Gallery

LGAA features a "Members Peer Gallery."  Members may bring a recent art piece to display at demo meetings.  A competition is held and members vote for their favorite choices.  Each of the top three winners receives a certificate.  This month the 1st place winner won an LGAA apron.

In addition to getting to see and appreciate the fine work that LGAA members do, all gallery contributors receive one credit point toward the Artist of the Year Award, held at the end of the year.

Demo Drawings & Painting Giveaways

As Paul Kratter has done in his past demos at LGAA, he randomly gave away his April 14th demo drawings and his finished oil painting, shown below. Much to the delight of those who attended, this was a very generous gesture and indicative of Paul's long-term friendship with LGAA.

LGAA presents

Scott Hamill

Unlock the Joy of Painting

Scott presents a lively and entertaining demonstration on how to paint a California water scene that looks convincing and captures its essence.  He is a masterful and prolific plein air artist with a painterly style and skill set many artists would love to have.  Scott demonstrates in oils how to acquire the skills needed to paint beautiful water scenes such as breaking waves, still water, reflections, ripples, etc.

Scott emphasizes the importance of learning and continuously practicing the techniques of painting, such as color mixing and creating depth.  As one gets faster and eventually "nails it" by rendering things skillfully and quickly, one can finally become free to experience the real Joy of Painting. Seeing Scott's vast repertoire of seascapes and landscapes on his website is proof he has definitelt nailed it.
